Coaching For Individuals & Families

It’s my mission to assist people who are having a hard time with the same kinds of situations I myself faced when entering a blended family. No matter how your family is composed, coaching is an excellent choice to overcome the unique challenges that non-nuclear families are up against.

Besides my coaching training and certificates, I draw heavily from my own background to understand and empathize with all the different members of a family.

I Am A Stepparent

When you’re choosing to be a part of a family and sign up for the stepparent role, we often feel misunderstood when trying to express our feelings of overwhelm with the changes to the dynamics of our relationships.

We often don’t feel validated as a real parent, so we don’t get the same considerations or respect with regards to our feelings and struggles. After all, we “chose this,” right?

But stepping into a pre-existing family isn’t always as easy as it first seemed. We often struggle to find our specific role and fit in. We feel out of place, like the leftover fraction from a long division equation that doesn’t quite fit anywhere.

Why does something we feel so passionate about and what so badly to work out feel so difficult? Or nearly impossible to achieve at times? Some days we can feel like outsiders in our own homes, like we’re playing “catch-up” to a life that we don’t feel even necessary in sometimes, or be jealous of our partners and other “traditional” families.

But there are other days where we feel like we were put into the lives of our family for a reason. I love my stepdaughter Blake so much and know she feels the same way towards me. It is those days that I know our family is exactly is how it is supposed to be. That everything happens for a reason, and that everything will be ok.

Both of those days manifest based on how our thoughts are that day. We control it. Therefore, we can sabotage or nurture how our days and lives with our families go. Let me help you nurture your extended family.

I Have Been The Child

I’ve also been the child. It’s tough to navigate this new world of extended families: the new rules, fears and expectations, feeling torn and trying to choose a favourite.

I was scared of saying the wrong thing. I had so many difficult thoughts because no one kept an open dialogue with me about what was going on.

“Are you here forever now? Are you my step dad? Do you love me or just my Mom?”

These thoughts became cycles. These cycles can be broken, and we children of “broken homes” are not broken at all. Many times we feel like we have no voice, which is why it is so important to help give the child a voice when dealing with extended families.

I Understand The Parent

Stepparents and children are not the only ones having to deal with new dynamics – parents do too! There is a constant balancing act making sure that both their partner and child feel included.

I see this in my husband, Kevin, as we keep an open dialogue about it. It is tough to be the parent and feel like you have no time to yourself so that you can facilitate the relationships around you.

Some days it seems like all you do is try, yet it all falls apart. Other days you wrestle with the feelings that it all sits on your shoulders.

Nuclear families are able to put their relationship on the back-burner to focus on the children with much greater ease. When it comes down to it, they can coast on fumes for a while if the demands of parenting are high (not that I’m advising it, but sometimes life happens!)

It’s not so easy to do the same in a new relationship. I understand how overwhelming this all can be.

What Is Life Coaching?

You aren’t alone, many people have no idea what Life Coaching is. Or why it would be useful.

Life Coaching is NOT therapy. Coaching is not as intense as therapy. Many successful people get coaching for an area of their life that they would like to improve. Simple. As. That.

Life Coaching is for GROWTH.

What Can Coaching Cover?

Life Coaching can cover nearly any area of your life. The Family Turf is dedicated to topics related to Extended, Step, Single Parent, and Blended families.

If you are part of a non-traditional family and have unmet goals, are struggling, or simply feel like something’s missing, then I am the coach for you.

What Can I Expect Being Coached by TFT?

  • We will assess where you currently are in your family situation. Whether you are just beginning a relationship with a parent, if you’re a single mother, an adoptive parent, or if you’re a caregiver of children, we will cover current issues you are having and decide your current goals.
  • During our first session I will run through a bit of family history with you, as well as go through a few questionnaires which will help me with then…
  • Develop an action plan for you based on your goals.
  • I will keep you accountable for your goals.
  • We will assess current issues as they are happening and identify the patterns that are recurring in your family, and develop strategic ways of handling them.
  • We are STRIVING for lasting results. Every exercise, activity, and session we do are for the sole purpose of achieving results that will be easily maintained. I do not just care while I am coaching you.
  • I care about what happens after I’ve coached you.

Always remember that unlike therapy, coaching is designed to be more two-way, in that I will discuss things with you as opposed to you simply telling me things.

I will offer suggestions, feedback, and techniques that will lead you to your true feelings and shift your current relationships and state of mind.

Coaching is very unique in that you decide the course. I will offer you multiple solutions on how to deal with a problem, but it is up to you which we focus on.

If you’re still unsure or confused – don’t hesitate to shoot me an email! I’ll send you a detailed reply within 24 hours!
